The S&P/ASX200 was smashed yesterday, closing at 4,574.70 down by 2.36%. But Wall Street had a huge performance last night so the ASX 200 has opened up significantly higher this morning.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 9,962.58, an unexpected 200 point increase.
The surge was a reaction to news that the American economy has exited recession in the third quarter.
In Europe the FTSE finished higher by 53 points to 5,137.72. A strong start with the US market pushed it higher at the close. See what else opened over night in the UK here.
The Nikkei was down 183 points, closing at 9,891.10.
The price of gold increased overnight.
In Australian dollars, gold is trading at $1,143.04, while in US Dollars it is trading at $1,047.03. And the price of silver in Aussie dollars is $18.23 and in US Dollars it is $16.69.
The Aussie dollar against the US dollar increased overnight, currently trading at USD $0.9159. The Aussie dollar gained a little overnight against the Japanese Yen, trading at JPY 83.79
Crude oil, rose slightly, closing at USD$79.87
