Aussie Analysts Have Little Experience in Market Crash

A couple of weeks ago we took the kids to the Royal Melbourne Show. We were surprised when they asked us if they could go on the rollercoaster, or the ‘Crazy Coaster’ if our memory serves us correctly.

For an adult (that’s me) it wasn’t stomach churning, but it was a little unsettling as we were lurched from left to right with the feeling that at any moment we would drop over the edge.

For the kids, well it was a different story. They are 7 and 9 years old, and this was their first experience of a ’scary ride.’ The abject fear was plastered across their faces as the cart climbed only about ten metres before dropping rapidly. Of course we immortalized that experience by paying another $10 for the photo showing them screaming as the cart descended to what they must have thought was oblivion.

Australian Market to Open in the Black

Not surprisingly the ASX/S&P200 looks as though it is going to get off to another strong start this morning.

We dare say you have all had the opportunity to digest plenty of information over the weekend. Newspapers and websites have been screaming about financial Armageddon. Two weeks ago very few people would have heard of Henry “Hank” Paulson. Today he is almost a household name.

A quick summary of what has happened over the last few days in chronological order.

Markets have slumped. The US government has proposed buying up bad debts from US banks. The US, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Canada and now Australia have implemented various bans to prevent or limit short-selling. Markets have soared.
