RBA Should Never Have Taken Interest Rates this Low to Begin With

by Kris Sayce on October 6, 2009

It’s a big day today on the interest rate front. Our marionette-like Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) governor and his chums will settle down in their Martin Place office today to discuss interest rates.

They’ll look at all sorts of tables and charts and statistics. They’ll be served either tea or coffee. And doubtless there’ll be a nice selection of biscuits available as well – rich tea, digestives, custard crèmes… and maybe even a few Tim Tams if they’re good.

And then, if the market is right, they’ll light the touch-paper on the Australian public by putting up interest rates.

What good people these people at the RBA and in government are.

Has the Stimulus Finally Run its Course?

by Kris Sayce on September 1, 2009

Is this the morning after? Or Boxing Day? Or even the day after your birthday?

Well, if the stimulus programmes were the night out on the… town, Christmas Day and your birthday all rolled into one, then there is always going to be a big let down the day after.

Could this be it? Has the stimulus finally run its course?

Well, let’s take a look. But first a brief follow-up to the property saga.

We don’t think the Money Morning mailbag has ever seen as much action as it has over the last week or so.

Neither the Low Interest Rates Nor the Stimulus Are Sustainable

by Kris Sayce on August 17, 2009

Today your editor is wrapping up the August issue of Australian Wealth Gameplan. With the market up 40% from the low you might think it’s not the best time to be tipping stocks.

That may – or may not – be true for blue chip growth stocks, but blue chip income stocks are a different story.

Anyway, I won’t give away the details here, but if you’ve already secured your subscription to Australian Wealth Gameplan just keep an eye on your inbox over the next couple of days.

Speaking of stocks, so far earnings season seems to be going tickety-boo. According to the analysts, half of the major companies to have reported earnings so far have exceeded analysts’ expectations.

Agora Financial Investment Symposium, Day Four…

by Kris Sayce on July 27, 2009

Editor’s log: Agora Financial Investment Symposium, day four…

Your editor is now back on the ground in Sydney, waiting for the flight back to Melbourne.

Today we’ll wrap up our coverage of the Agora Financial Investment Symposium. We’ve got a brief summary of our own presentation – we’ll try to be fair and balanced with the critique of our own efforts – plus some of the closing comments from Daily Reckoning founder Bill Bonner.

The master of ceremonies, ‘Chip’ Wood told us the first session back after the morning coffee break on the last day was the worst time to present – so that was nice confidence booster!

Government Programme to Rob You of Choices When You Retire

by Kris Sayce on May 16, 2009

Since the markets started to bottom out late last year and the stimulus and bail-out packages started to flow, we’ve been highly critical of the co-ordinated and pre-meditated attack by government, business and vested interests on private savings, especially the Fairy Ruddfather’s attack on superannuation.

In fact, as recently as a few weeks ago we warned you that that the government had begun a secret programme that would eventually rob you of any choices you make about when you retire, how you retire and how much you will have to live from in retirement.

It may have sounded like the stuff of conspiracy theories. After last week’s federal budget, it sounds nothing like a conspiracy and more like reality.

So, why did we predict this and what do we believe will happen from here.
