I was recently going through some old stock recommendations from my premium investment service, Revolutionary Tech Investor.
One of the issues was from December 2013 — just over three years ago. Here’s what I wrote.
‘Cast your mind forward 30 years. When the digital world and real world merge. Your car drives itself, road fatalities are non-existent because cars can predict an accident before people can. You can be omnipresent anywhere in the world. You can experience all the sensory benefits of being somewhere without physically having to go.’
This vision of the future was to paint a picture of a coming reality. And of course there was a stock tied to it all. As it happens, that stock recently pushed through a 600% return — but as of writing has pulled back to sit on a 555% gain.
But this actually isn’t about the tremendous gains revolutionary tech can provide investors. It’s about the future that’s coming, which most people don’t see.
Let me explain a little more…
High-tech just got more high-tech
When I wrote that issue in December 2013 it was founded in available fact. That is, there were technologies available and in development then which helped paint that picture of the future.
I was probably too generous with my timeframe. I said 30 years; I should have said three. You see the technologies like self-driving cars, immersive reality, and virtual reality are all available now.
I can say this because, as you might know, I just returned from CES® in Las Vegas. This is the world’s largest technology trade show. In fact, it’s the biggest trade show in the world.
The purpose of my visits to CES® is to uncover revolutionary technologies for investors like you. The aim is to continue to cast a vision of the future and paint the picture for you so that you can see what I see. If you can see the potential, if you can see the future, you can invest accordingly.
Three years ago I saw the future of today. And last week I got to experience that vision in reality. One part in particular was virtual reality — and it took my breath away.
Formula E is an all-electric motorsport category. The cars are high tech. The organisation is innovative. The future for this category is huge.
Again, this is something I’ve had the pleasure of being involved in from the start. I managed to get access to the very first Formula E testing sessions before the first ever season back in 2014. Back then it was clear this was one category that would push the boundaries of new technology.
And it has. From pushing new electric drivetrain technology, wireless charging, cutting edge social engagement to eSports, Formula E seems to have the recipe dialled in for the future.
All the major car makers are now involved too. From Audi, BMW, Citroen (their DS brand), Faraday Future, NextEV, Jaguar and Renault. Mercedes is also getting involved. Williams Advanced Engineering and McLaren Applied Technologies are also part of development.
This is a high tech sport — that, at CES®, got more high tech.
Being live while not being there at all
I was at a media event hosted by Formula E, and managed to meet with the founder and CEO of a company called Virtually Live.
I also got a chance to demo a ‘live’ Formula E race in a fully virtual world.
Putting on the VR headset and holding the VR controller (the HTC Vive VR set) you find yourself immediately transported into the Formula E EMOTION Club. This is the exclusive behind the scenes access that is usually reserved for the glitzy and glamorous.
Yet here you are in all its virtual glory. You can choose to watch the race (the real live TV broadcast) from this comfortable virtual club, choose transport yourself to any number of viewpoints around the track.
You can then watch the race from these viewpoints. But here’s the really breakthrough aspect: you can also choose to ride inside the cars racing. This virtual world puts you inside the driver’s cockpit. You see what the driver sees. It’s really like you’re there, riding shotgun.
Not of course this is all a virtual world, so how can it be ‘live’?
Every Formula E car is fitted out with a myriad of sensors and processors. The data from every car is sent real-time to Virtual Live. This allows them to instantaneously replicate the real world actions of the car in the virtual world.
In other words, the cars in VR are racing exactly as they are in the real, physical race. Tom Impallomeni was telling me they can render and create this virtual race faster than you receive the real-time TV broadcast feed.
You need to remind yourself you’re in a virtual world; it’s easy to forget and feel like you’re actually there. It was mind-blowing.
This VR world is also social. That means you and I can both be at a race in VR and chat about it. Go hang out at different vantage points, or sit inside competing cars. This social aspect is incredibly important, as that’s what makes these kinds of events enjoyable — sharing them with others.
And we can all do it without having to leave our living rooms.
It’s not just incredible, it’s a revolutionary change in sports broadcasting. You apply this to other sports like football or basketball and the entire world of sports broadcasting turns on its head.
Virtually live is aiming to provide the VR world for a live Formula E race this season. And ongoing, they aim to cover all the races for everyone with VR to enjoy. It’s a little hard to grasp how game changing this is by simply readying about it. But I can assure you, this is the future of sports broadcasting.
When you can be there, almost as though you’re at the event physically, it opens up a whole new world to a whole new kind of sports fan. And it’s going to become seriously big business.
